  • The Chemistry of Attachment: Bonding between parents and their new baby is crucial to healthy development and both physical and mental wellness.  Hormones play a vital role in this process.  Although active during bonding between the mother and baby, the hormone vasopressin is particularly important for men. It helps to reduce aggression, increases protective behaviours, and is also known to promote monogamous behaviour.
Vasopressin is only two genes different to oxytocin (the ‘love’ hormone) and is noted to be particularly significant when a male parent is cohabiting with a pregnant partner.  Read more about the science behind dads here.
